IMMERSIVE CREATIVE BRAINSTORM

Building Empathy Through Role-Play

An introduction to creative problem-solving, user empathy, role-playing, active listening, quick prototyping, and presenting.

This fun and educational event was attended by the newly formed Briggs & Stratton Concept Development Team. It served as both a team-building exercise and an opportunity to explore new activities and approaches to creative problem solving.

PART 1

Storytelling

Before the brainstorm, everyone created a character bio. To kick things off, they shared their bio with a partner, who then had to introduce the other character to the entire group; leveraging active listening.

Next, everyone visualized where they lived to help communicate the challenges of maintaining their homes. As each person presented their visuals, the group helped document the challenges.

PART 2 & 3

Brainstorming & Presenting

Once all the challenges were collected, we clustered and prioritized them by severity, then assigned the top challenges to three small teams. Using the home visuals and character bios, each team brainstormed solutions to address the challenges.

At the end of the day, each team presented their challenge and proposed solutions.

PART 0

Costume Construction

Each team member selected a character, and I measured everyone to ensure their bodies and legs would fit. Then, I got to work building. Natalie designed the character graphics in Illustrator. Thankfully, we had a large-format vinyl printer/cutter!!

Concept, event organization, and brainstorm led by Sara Linginfelter.
